What painting actually costs in Cleveland.

Most Cleveland painting companies treat pricing like a state secret. You call, get “we’ll need to come out to give you a price,” and end up sitting through a sales pitch before you even know if the project fits your budget. We publish the ranges instead — so you can budget intelligently before the on-site estimate, and skip the painters whose pricing is wildly out of range.

Painting cost Cleveland projects fall into predictable ranges by service type. The exact number on your specific project depends on a handful of variables — size, condition, paint quality, prep load, color count — but the ballpark for each service tier is consistent across hundreds of Artisan projects. The ranges below come from real recent projects in Brunswick, Solon, Pepper Pike, Chagrin Falls, Medina, and across Greater Cleveland.

Every Artisan Painting Cleveland quote is fixed-project, not time-and-materials. That means the number you see at the estimate is the number you pay — no surprise add-ons, no “the job took longer than expected” change orders. Use the ranges below to budget; we’ll write the exact quote during the on-site walk.

The Artisan difference

Six things that move the price on your project.

Within each service range above, your specific quote lands higher or lower based on six factors. Understanding these helps you compare quotes apples-to-apples between painters.

  • 01
Square footage / scopeThe simplest driver. A 12×12 bedroom is $450–$700 to repaint. A 4,000 sq ft whole interior is $7,000–$9,000+. Larger jobs benefit from scale efficiency but the curve isn’t linear.
  • 02
Prep loadDrywall in great shape vs drywall with patches, water stains, or old wallpaper underneath — completely different prep loads. Most surprise change orders come from prep load being underestimated. We walk every wall on the estimate.
  • 03
Color count & transitionsOne color across the whole interior runs faster than 8 different accent walls. Color count drives cut-line time and material cost more than most homeowners realize.
  • 04
Ceiling height9-foot ceilings vs 12-foot vaulted ceilings means different equipment (taller ladders, staging) and slower painting. Vaulted living rooms and 2-story foyers push prices up.
  • 05
Paint qualityBargain paint vs premium Sherwin-Williams Duration vs cabinet-grade urethane enamel — all very different per-gallon costs. We default to mid- and premium lines (the cheaper paint doesn’t last in Ohio humidity).
  • 06
Cabinet count / decorative finish complexityFor cabinet refinishing, 12 doors vs 40 doors is a big delta. For decorative finishes, one wall in limewash is a different project than three walls in multi-layer Venetian plaster.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why don’t most Cleveland painters publish their prices?
Two reasons. First, every project is genuinely different — same-size rooms can vary widely based on prep load and color count. Second, painters who avoid pricing transparency get to up-charge once they’re on-site. Our approach: publish ranges so you can budget, write fixed quotes on-site, no surprise add-ons during the job.
Is the quote actually fixed, or does it change during the project?
Fixed. Every Artisan Painting Cleveland quote is a flat project price written into the agreement. The only time the number changes is if you change the scope mid-project — adding rooms, changing paint quality, adding color counts. Even then, we re-quote in writing before the new scope starts.
How much should I budget for painting in Cleveland?
Depends on what you’re painting. A single room: $500–$1,200. Whole-house interior: $4,000–$9,000+. Whole-house exterior: $5,500–$14,000+. Kitchen cabinets: $3,500–$7,500. The service ranges above are accurate to within 80%+ of actual quotes; the on-site walk dials in the exact number.
Why is cabinet painting more expensive than wall painting?
Different process. Cabinet refinishing is sprayed (not brushed), requires off-site spray work in a controlled environment, uses two-part urethane enamel (more expensive than wall paint), and includes hardware removal and reinstall. The result is a factory-smooth finish — but the labor and material cost is higher per square foot than wall painting.
Do you charge for the estimate?
No. Every Artisan Painting Cleveland estimate is free. No obligation, no sales pitch, no hidden fees. We do the walk, write the quote, and you decide.
Can you beat a lower bid I got from another painter?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Lower bids usually skip the prep — that’s where the savings come from. We won’t quote a job that skips prep because it’ll fail in 18 months and you’ll need to repaint. If we can’t match a price honestly, we’ll tell you and let you make the call.
