- 04Multi-layer hand applicationTwo to five hand-applied layers depending on the finish. Each layer worked while the previous is still receptive. Tool choice (trowel, brush, sponge) varies by finish type.
- 05Seal & protectThe right topcoat or wax for the finish type. Some finishes need protection; others are self-sealing. The right call here is what makes the finish last.

Decorative finishes don’t fit a standard repaint process. Each project is a small-batch collaboration with the homeowner — or with the designer.
Design consult
30–60 minute walk with you or your designer. Finish type, light conditions, neighboring colors, the room’s role.
Sample boards
Hand-applied sample boards on your actual walls. Reviewed in the actual light of the actual room before commitment.
Prep
Sanded, primed, every flaw addressed. Decorative finishes show everything underneath — prep is non-negotiable.
Application
Multi-layer hand application by Jeff or a senior crew member. Slow work — typically 2–5 days per room depending on finish type.
Seal & reveal
Sealed where the finish calls for it. Final walk with you in the room’s actual light. Touch-ups marked and addressed.

If you’ve seen a finish you want and it’s not on the list, ask — most hand-applied techniques are within our range.
Where do decorative finishes work best in a home?
Foyers, dining rooms, powder rooms, statement-wall living rooms, library walls, and decorative ceilings. The rule of thumb: rooms where guests spend time and where the wall is meant to be noticed. Decorative finishes in hallways or bedrooms can feel like overkill — we’ll tell you on the consultation if the finish doesn’t fit the room.
How durable are these finishes?
Properly applied and sealed, decorative finishes Cleveland homes get from Artisan last 10–15+ years. Venetian plaster is famously durable — many last 25+ years. Limewash is breathable and develops character over time. Metallic and faux finishes hold up well to normal home wear when sealed correctly.
Do you provide samples before committing?
